Australia win gold, Pakistan bronze

BEIJING, Aug 13: Australia thrashed host China 9-0 in the final to claim’Good Luck Beijing’ tournament title here on Monday. Pakistan won the bronze medal with a convincing 4-1 victory against Malaysia.

The final was the easiest match for Australia in the ‘Good Luck Beijing’ tournament, although it took a while before the Kookaburras were able to open the score.

Matthew Naylor put the 1-0 on the scoreboard in the 19th minute. This was the sign for Australia to control the match. Three minutes later, Aaron Hopkins scored the Australian second goal.

China kept hoping on better times, but the hopes of the hosts were quickly finished in the beginning of the second half. Australia scored six times in less than 20 minutes and sailed to victory.

Grant Schubert finally put the 9-0 on the scoreboard in the last minute of the match.—Agencies
