Independence day sports continue

LAHORE, Aug 13: While some competitions were held on Monday in connection with the 60th Independence Day of Pakistan, falling on Tuesday, some organisers have announced more programmes to make the celebrations more colourful.

Some seventy young boys and girls karatekas from ages 8 to 14 competed in one-day event, organised by the Punjab Karate Association at the PSB National Sports Coaching Centre.

Results:

50kgs: Umair Ahmad (Sahiwal); Waqar Wakeel (Lahore), Farhan Ullah (Sheikhupura).

55kgs: Zubair Afzal (Sargodha), Mohammad Hafeez (Lahore), Abdur Rehman (Gujranwala).

60kgs: Mohammad Rashid (Sahiwal), Mohammad Shahbaz (Lahore), Adeel Afzal (Sheikhupura).

65 kgs: Mohammad Kashif Aslam (Lahore), M Saqib (Faisalabad), Ali Farhad (Rawalpindi).

70 kgs: Mohammad Azam (Lahore), Zahid Mahmood (Sargodha), Ghulam Yasin (Lahore).

75 kgs: Riaz (Lahore), Mohammad Mobeen (Gujrat), Sajjad Ali (Sahiwal).

Above 75 kgs: Shahzad Ali (Sargodha),

Qaiser Shahbaz (Gujrat).

Individual Kata: Faizan Shahid (Rawalpindi), Mohammad Naeem (Sargodha), Mohammad Imran (Sialkot).

Individual Kata (girls): Beenish Akbar, Ridah, Sughra.

48 kgs (girls): Beenish Akbar, Fatima, Sughra.

50 kgs: Sameena, Aalia Hashmi, Iqra.

Four more matches were decided in the Don Bosco Jashan-e-Azadi basketball tournament at Don Bosco High School.

Don Bosco (Urdu Medium) thrashed Orlando Kids Club 71-25. Punjab College earned 38-26 win against Defence Club (Blacks). Mian Channu Club trounced Defence Club Whites 51-49. Don Bosco (English Medium) outclassed Kasur District 52-18.

Punjab University Greens beat Punjab University Reds in the women’s basketball match 18-11.

Meanwhile, one-day women’s volleyball tournament will be held at Iqbal Park Sports Complex on Aug 16, under the supervision of Punjab Volleyball Association.
