KOHAT, Aug 12: The political administration of the Orakzai Agency has assured the elders of Mishti and Sheikhan tribes that repair work on the Kalaya grid station will start soon.

The grid station has been dysfunctional for two months.

People of the two tribes had attacked the grid station in protest against loadshedding which caused heavy damage to its gadgets.

Meanwhile, college students ransacked the offices of Kalaya, headquarters of the Orakzai Agency, on Saturday evening and injured subedar Bhai Gul and sepoy Gul Zaman. The Khasadar force arrested 27 students, but the tribesmen got them released.

The students were protesting against the suspension of power supply to the area.

The political authorities said the Mishti and Sheikhan tribes had deposited Rs4.5 million as fine, but Wapda claimed that Rs10 million would be required to make the grid functional. The tribal elders later agreed to deposit the remaining amount but sought some time.

The Orakzai Agency has been without electricity for the last three months.

Two months ago, a transformer at the Kohat Rawalpindi grid station, which feeds power to the Kalaya grid, developed some fault, but it could not be replaced for more than 20 days which sparked protests in the area.
