KARACHI, Aug 11: Bridge legend Munir Ataullah and Canadian John Carruthers will train Pakistan team in their build-up for the Bermuda Bowl World bridge championship scheduled to be held in Shanghai, China, from Sept 29 to Oct 15.

“Munir and Carruthers will be arriving in the city on Sept 4 to launch the ten-day training programme,” Pakistan Bridge Federation (PBF) secretary Tariq Rasheed Khan said on Saturday.

He said Munir Ataullah, who was a member of the Pakistan bridge team which finished runners-up in 1981 and 1985, is considered top theoretician of the game in the world.

Veteran Jan-e-Alam Fazli was Munir’s team-mate in several international competitions, including Bermuda Bowl.

Carruthers had coached the Pakistan team before the Asia & Middle East Bridge in Karachi in May which helped them to qualify for the Bermuda Bowl.

The PBF secretary added that besides members of the national team which included captain Abdul Rehman Allana, Jan-e-Alam Fazli, Javed Miran, Tahir Masud, Rashid Jafer and Sarfraz Ahmed Khan other interested men and women would also be allowed to attend the training programme.—APP
