KASUR, Aug 11: Over 100 residents of Rakh union council of Chunian staged a protest demonstration against a Wapda official who charged Rs8,000 from them for repair of a transformer which again went out of order just within a few hours of its reinstallation.
The area had been without power supply for 20 hours.
The protesters, including women, also took out a rally led by councillor Gulzar Ahmed on Saturday afternoon. They chanted slogans against Line Superintendent Amanat Ali, alleging that he received the amount, collected by the area people, for getting a faulty transformer repaired a week ago. But, they said, the transformer again developed some fault after working for a few hours.
The protestors alleged that when they again contacted Amanat complaining about the problem, he demanded more money for transformer’s repair. Protesters including Bashir and Sakina Bibi said the Wapda officials had been turning a deaf ear to their complaints as they remained without electricity for the 20 hours.
