KARACHI: Call to arrest culprits behind attack on former nazim

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Aug 11: The Karachi Makami Sahili Tehrik (KMST) has called for the arrests of the culprits who were involved in the “murderous attack” on the former nazim of Keamari Town.

In a joint statement issued here by the KMST, Chairman Abdullah Husain Haroon and Secretary-General Ibrahim Saleh Hingora expressed concern that the authorities have so far not arrested any nominated culprit and are adopting delaying tactics in the matter, which is causing unrest among the fishermen.

The KMST leaders have endorsed the call of Keamari Town and Gabopat fishermen to hold a protest rally in this regard and urged the fisherfolk community of Karachi to join the rally being held on Aug 13 outside the Karachi Press Club.

A KMST press release also criticised the politically appointed directors on the Fishermen’s Cooperative Society’s board of directors and also alleged that millions of rupees were being spent from the society’s welfare fund on the expenditures of these directors.

The KMST also demanded that a complete ban should be imposed on the operation of deep-sea trawlers as they are responsible for the destruction of the coastal resources.
