ISLAMABAD, Aug 9: Prominent writer/scholar Jameeluddin Aali has been nominated for the Kamal-i-Fun Award 2006 by Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL). In this regard, the panel of judges consisting of Dr Saleem Akhtar, Prof Fateh Mohammad Malik, Prof Dr Peerzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, Aftab Iqbal Shamim, Dr Tariq Rehman, Dr Riaz Majeed, Zaitoon Bano, Abdul Qadir Junejo, Dr Rubina Tareen and Munir Ahmad Badini met at the PAL with Dr Saleem Akhtar in the chair on Thursday.
Kamal-i-Fun Award is the highest literary award in the field of literature for recognition of lifetime achievement in creative and research work. The award carries an amount of Rs500,000.
The PAL has also announced the National Literary Award for the year 2006 for the best literary books in Urdu, Punjabi, Sindhi, Pashto, Balochi, Seraiki, Brahui and in English languages.
According to the decision of the panel for Urdu poetry, Dr Allama Mohammad Iqbal Award has been awarded to Anwar Shaoor on his book ‘Me Raqsam’. In Urdu prose, Baba-i-Urdu Maulvi Abdul Haq Award has been given to Dr Jameel Jalibi for his book ‘Tareekh Adab-i-Urdu’. In Punjabi, the Syed Waris Shah Award was won by Nazeer Kahut for his book ‘Daryaburd’. In Sindhi, the Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai Award was grabbed by Zarab Haider for his book ‘Zindagi-a-Jo Safar: Toon Ain Man’.
In Pashto, the Khushhal Khan Khattak Award has been given to Dr Mohammad Humayun Huma for his book ‘Da Qand Handara: Pashto Adab Peh Taraki Da Qand Mujale Barkha’. In Balochi, Mast Tawakli Award was given to Mohammad Baig Begal for his book ‘Joker’. In Seraiki, Khwaja Ghulam Farid Award is given to Irshad Taunsvi for his book ‘Nadi Na Sanjok’. In Brahui, Taj Mohammad Tajal Award was given to Zauq Brahui for his book ‘Kamal’.
In English, the Pitras Bukhari Award went to Moni Mohsin for her book ‘The end of innocence’. An amount of Rs50,000 will be presented to each award winner.
