President’s re-election opposed

By Our Correspondent

HARIPUR, Aug 8: High Court Bar Association (Abbottabad bench) general-secretary Javed Qureshi Advocate has warned that lawyers will lay siege to the National Assembly, if the present government tried to amend the Constitution in a bid to re-elect the ‘uniformed president’.

Talking to newsmen, he termed the re-election move a violation of the Constitution and said Gen Musharraf was neither acceptable as a uniformed president nor a civilian president.

“Gen Musharraf should immediately quit both the posts of president and army chief,” he added.

“The people of Pakistan for the first time are seeing a ray of hope for the supremacy of Constitution and law and if any political party or institution tries to sabotage the process, the lawyers will resist it,” Mr Javed said.
