SANGHAR, Aug 7: People whose land has been affected by the Chotiyarioon reservoir staged a protest demonstration outside the press club here on Tuesday, demanding installation of tube-wells around the reservoir to contain water seepage. They said that thousands of acres of their agricultural land situated in Bakkar, Wadhki, Akanwari, Seri and Khadwari Dehs had been ruined due to seepage from the reservoir.

Faqir Jan Mohammad Behan, Ghaffar Janwari, Jumo Bugti and others told journalists that after the filling of the reservoir, it had become impossible to grow crops on the adjacent land due to increased water table.

They said that Wapda and the Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authority had promised before the construction of the reservoir that 100 tube-wells would be installed around the reservoir to contain the seepage but the promise had not been fulfilled as yet.

They said that the site of the project was sandy and not fit for such project and the point was raised by the local people during the preparation of its feasibility but the experts paid no heed.

WOMAN KILLED: A woman was killed by her husband in Jeevan Leghari village near Chotiyarioon on Tuesday.

Murad Leghari told that his sister had been killed on the pretext of karo-kari.
