KARACHI: Three of a family drown off Gadani

KARACHI, Aug 5: Three members of a family, including two women, drowned near Gadani Beach on Sunday. Residents of Darus Salam Society in Baloch Colony, the victims had gone to the beach along with other family members on Sunday morning.

A spokesman for the Edhi Welfare Organization said the incident occurred at around 12:30pm when Gul Naz, 26, and Zainab Bibi, 18, were swept away by a strong tide. In an attempt for their rescue, 30-year-old Iftikhar Shah of the same family also drowned.

On this information, local authorities and Edhi divers rushed to the spot from Hub. The bodies of both women were recovered after several hours of continuous efforts. However, Iftikhar could not be found till late in the evening.

Later, Edhi ambulances shifted the bodies to Baloch Colony.

Accident


An eight-year-old girl and a young woman were killed in an accident near Merewether Tower on Sunday evening.

Kharadar police said that Kainat Dua and Arzoo, 25, were on motorcycle along with Muhammad Arif when a minibus of W-11 route hit them in front of Jillina Centre.

As they fell, both the girl and the woman were run over by a water tanker. Arzoo died on the spot while Kainat succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Arif, who also suffered injuries, was admitted at the hospital.

None of the two drivers involved in the accident had been arrested, police said.
