Lal Masjid: hearing in six cases deferred till 17th

RAWALPINDI, Aug 4: Anti-Terrorist Court (ATC) No. 2 Special Judge Sakhi Mohammad Kahot on Saturday put off till August 17 the hearing in six cases against former Lal Masjid cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz amid warnings by the preacher that there would be more trouble if the mosque was not reopened.
Maulana Aziz along with his wife Majida Aziz alias Umme Hassaan, daughters Tayyaba Dua (17) and Asma Dua (13) were produced before the ATC judge in the murder case of a Pakistan Rangers’ soldier registered with the Aabpara police station on July 3.
The five other cases that were taken up on Saturday were those of Chinese masseurs’ abduction (Margalla police), police personnel abduction (Aabpara police), two cases of forceful closure of shops and kidnapping of policemen (Kohsar police), and CDs burning case (Bhara Kahu police). The hearing in these cases was also deferred till August 17.
The verdict on the bail application of Wajheeullah advocate, associate of Maulana Aziz’s lawyer Hashmat Habib, in three different cases was also put off till August 30. Wajheeullah has also studied at Jamia Fareedia and been assisting Mr Habib in the cases relating to Lal Masjid.
The judge also adjourned the hearing of the bail application of Khalid Khwaja, a former intelligence official, in the Ranger’s murder case till August 28.
The police also produced 16 students and teachers of Jamia Fareedia in the police personnel abduction case registered with the Aabpara police and seven persons in CDs burning case registered with the Bhara Kahu police.
Meanwhile, the bail applications of 10 alleged rioters were submitted in the court and that would be taken up on August 29.
