KARACHI: Govt urged to stop harassing political opponents

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Aug 3: Pakistan People’s Party MPA Shazia Marri has condemned, what she called, the victimization of MNA Dr Firdus Awan who has recently joined the party and urged the government to stop harassment of political opponents.

Maintaining that the PPP believes in democracy, she said the party would never approve the steps that would create bitterness and hatred among people.

Shazia Marri, who is also the PPP Karachi chapter women’s wing information secretary, expressed these views while addressing a press conference on Friday evening. She also expressed solidarity with the Baloch women, who observed a token hunger strike outside the Karachi Press Club for the recovery of their “missing” relatives.

The PPP had always condemned the “disappearances” on political grounds and called for their immediate recovery, she said, adding that it is right of every citizen to protest against injustices.

Defending the party’s talks with the government, she said, “Dialogue is a part of political process”. However, the party had never compromised on its basic principles, she said.
