RAWALPINDI, Aug 2: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) No 2 put off the hearing of nine different cases related to Lal Masjid operation till August 16 here on Thursday. However, the bail application of Maulana Abdul Aziz in a case registered against him for delivering speeches to incite religious extremism will be taken up on Friday (today).
The maulana and his wife Umme Hassan along with some students of Jamia Fareedia were produced in the court of Special Judge Sakhi Mohammad Kahot. Three of the nine cases were registered in 2005 and the rest this year.
In the police personnel’s abduction case registered with the Kohsar police, the court extended the judicial remand of 13 students for two weeks.
Students Mohammad Aamir and Abdul Basir arrested in the abduction case of Aunty Shamim registered with the Aabpara police in May 2007 were also sent to Adiala Jail on 14 days’ judicial remand.
Talking to mediapersons outside the ATC, Maulana Aziz said he had not yet appointed his deputy at Lal Masjid and he was still the Khateeb of the mosque. Reiterating his demand for enforcement of Sharia, he said law and order situation could only be restored after enforcement of Sharia in the country.
He demanded constitution of a seven-member inquiry commission to look into the Lal Masjid operation.
