KARACHI, Aug 2: The Sindh High Court restrained the investigation official from harassing a couple.
Petitioners Gul Bano and Qayyum claim that they contracted a free-will marriage at Naukot, Mirpurkhas, but the girl’s father lodged a complaint with the police that she was already married to Wahid Bux and was not competent to remarry during the subsistence of an earlier marriage.
A Qari who had solemnised the first marriage appeared before the court while an investigator produced a ‘nikahnama’ testifying the previous marriage.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed and Justice Mohammad Afzal Soomro adjourned further hearing to Aug 17 to consider the complicated questions thrown up by the case and asked the police to deal with the petitioner couple in accordance with the law.
Bail plea
The bench adjourned the hearing of a bail application moved by Hadi Bux Sial, a grade 11 employee of the National Database and Registration Authority.
The accused was found to have about Rs4.8m in his bank accounts and the National Accountability Bureau inquired from him about the source of the disproportionate wealth.
The NAB was approached by a widow, who complained that the accused was her brother’s tenant and finding him trustworthy, she gave him cheques for depositing in his accounts. He deposited cheques for Rs2.2m in his own bank account.
