Wapda retain men’s team event title: Badminton

LAHORE, Aug 1: Wapda retained the team event title overpowering National Bank of Pakistan 3-1 in the final of the 10th Amir Abdullah Khan Rokhri badminton tournament here on Wednesday.

National champion Wajid Ali drew the first blood for Wapda, crushing Rizwan Azam 21-14, 21-16. But the bankers reiterated to restore the parity when the pair of Rizwan-Kashif hammered Atiq-Rizwan Rana 21-15, 21-19.

But it was the first and last laugh for the bankers as Umar Zeeshan again put Wapda ahead 2-1, thrashing Atif Nadeem 21-11, 21-5.

The duo of Zafar Tasneem-Waqas Ahmed completed the rout, outplaying Ijaz-Atif 24-22, 21-11.

Moreover, men's singles event also started on Wednesday with top seed Wajid Ali earning an easy win against Shahid (Railways) 21-17, 21-10.
