Bell admits to doping violation

COLORADO SPRINGS (Colorado), July 31: Triple jumper Kenta Bell, who placed third at last month’s US Outdoor Track and Field Championships, admitted to a positive doping test from the meet.

The US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) announced on Monday that Bell tested positive for the banned substance methylprednisolone and accepted a first-offence suspension of three months.

But because Bell, 30, completed an anti-doping educational programme, he received a three-month deferment allowing for an immediate return to competition.

Bell’s offence involved using a prescribed medication under the care of a physician but without first seeking a therapeutic use exemption as required by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) rules.—AFP
