MUZAFFARGARH, July 31: The fate of the Muzaffargarh district council budget hangs in the balance as the provincial government has not approved it so far. The budget was presented on July 19 in a controversial session which the opposition termed an illegal meeting.
On Monday, Jamshaid Dasti, a senior supporter of District Nazim Qayyum Jatoi, presented a copy of the budget document to the EDO (finance).
The copy has been attached with an attendance sheet which showed that 80 union council nazims were present in the budget session chaired by Mr Dasti.
The opposition (ruling PML members) called another session and claimed that 86 nazims attended their meeting.
According to law, budget can be approved in the presence of 68 nazims.
An official of the DCO office said the session called by the district nazim was incomplete and he failed to bring the required number of nazims. He claimed that only 28 UC nazim were present in the session.
But the district nazim, who is at present in London, said the quorum was complete and 80 nazims had approved the budget.
When contacted, the EDO (finance) said he had received the budget copy and his team was checking it.
