LAHORE, July 31: The Pakistan Muslim League is the strongest party of the country and is capable to face all challenges. Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi claimed this while addressing party parliamentarian and officer bearers from Sialkot district here on Tuesday.

He said his party would contest the forthcoming general election from its own platform and win a thumping victory. He said the existing assemblies would first re-elect President Gen Pervez Musharraf and then after completion of their constitutional term, general elections would be held.

He urged assembly members, nazims and party office bearers to play their due role to strengthen the party for a victory in the elections.

The chief minister said construction of Sialkot-Lahore Motorway was in full swing, and this Rs23 billion project would leave a positive impact on the economy. It would strengthen links of this industrial city with Lahore and other areas of the province. This project would not only provide better means of communication, but also result in prosperity of the people of the area.

He said three industrial estates were being set up on the motorway while as many universities of science and technology would be established beside these industrial zones with the cooperation of Sweden and Germany.

He claimed that development programmes undertaken by his government would ensure a success for its candidates in the general elections.

National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Amir Husain, Federal Investment and Privatisation Minister Zahid Hamid, Punjab Industries Minister Ajmal Cheema, Agri-Marketing Minister Akhtar Husain Rizvi and Sialkot District Nazim Akmal Cheema also attended the meeting.

He directed the doctors that no stone should be left unturned in the treatment of Nafeesul Husaini Shah. —APP
