KARACHI: Protest over ‘missing’ fishermen

KARACHI, July 31: A complete shutter-down strike was observed on the call of the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum in Ibrahim Haideri on Tuesday against the disappearance of two fishermen, Idrees and Imran, allegedly picked up by some intelligence agency personnel.

Fishermen in large numbers, led by PFF Chairman Mohammad Ali Shah, staged a sit-in at Ibrahim Haideri’s Eidgah in protest against the disappearance of the fishermen. Holding banners and placards, the protesters later marched to the coastal belt and hoisted flags on their anchored boats.

They alleged that both fishermen had been whisked away by the agency personnel from Ibrahim Haideri on Saturday night.

They said the incident was part of the ongoing atrocities being committed against the poor fishermen.

They demanded immediate release of the fishermen, warning that the protest would spread to other parts of the city if the detainees were not released without delay.—PPI
