TOBA TEK SINGH, July 30: The district council is expected to hold a roaring budget meeting scheduled for Tuesday (today) as rival groups, respectively led by the nazim and naib-nazim, have been flexing their muscles over the legality of the session already delayed by more than a month.
The budget meeting, actually scheduled for June 2007, could not be held due to differences between the groups led by District Nazim Choudry Abdul Sattar and Naib Nazim Choudry Khalid Sardar.
When the naib nazim summoned the meeting on July 28, the district nazim directed him to postpone it on the pretext that the EDO (finance) had yet not provided him a copy of the proposed annual budget. But, instead of postponing it, the naib nazim held the meeting which had to be ultimately postponed as a majority of the members belonging to the ruling group boycotted it.
The district nazim wrote a letter to Punjab Local Government secretary, complaining that the EDO (finance) was not providing him a copy of proposed budget. Finally, the budget copy was provided to district nazim and he directed the naib nazim to call the council meeting. This time the naib nazim was not willing to oblige the district head and the meeting was not called.
The nazim responded by selecting nazim Chaudhry Ramzan Cheechi presiding officer who issued agenda to the members and called the meeting for Tuesday (today). Members of Khalid Sardar group claim that the meeting can only be called by district naib nazim.
