Bus routes issue unresolved

By Our Staff Correspondent

FAISALABAD, July 30: The district administration failed to reach any decision regarding the restoration of local bus service suspended a couple of days back on Jhang road.

DCO Mohammad Azam Suleman chaired a meeting held on Monday which was attended by the RTA secretary Mian Mohsin Rasheed, representatives of transporters and the residents of villages situated alongside Jhang road.

The villages’ residents had staged a protest demonstration three days back to protest the district government’s decision of cancelling the route permits of local buses plying on Jhang road.

Sources privy to the meeting said people were hopeful about the restoration of old bus routes, but the DCO adjourned the meeting and told the participants that they would shortly be informed about the decision.

During the meeting the villagers and transporters criticised the RTA secretary’s role and alleged that the officer had been creating problems for local transporters and the villagers only to please some influential people.

The secretary, denying the allegations, said that Jhang road led to the airport and because of the VIP’s movement it was necessary to limit traffic on the road. He said the local buses had been causing frequent accidents on the road making it unsafe for VIPs’ travel.
