HYDERABAD, July 30: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil here on Sunday night inaugurated the newly-constructed dyke and a sewage disposal pumping station in Shoro Goth, Qasimabad.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that during last year's heavy rains, Shoro Goth was among the worst affected areas of Hyderabad and it had, therefore, become necessary to take preventive measures to protect the people of the area against the accumulation of rainwater during the monsoon season.

In furtherance of this objective, he said, one and a half kilometre dyke and pumping station had been constructed. He said preventive measures have also been taken in the low-lying areas of rural taluka.

He claimed that no such measures had been taken anywhere in other rural areas. He said in order to protect the people of low-lying areas, ten protective bunds have been raised.

About the Shoro Goth dyke and pump, he said, an amount of Rs8.861 million has been spent. In addition to this, he said, 140HP and 125HP pumps and a 50kva transformer have also been installed.
