DADU, July 29: More than 100,000 people hit by the recent floods in Mehar, Khairpur Nathan Shah and Johi are facing shortage of food and medicines, while international donor agencies, army and government functionaries have established camps along the Flood Protective (FP) embankment in various parts of the district.
A survey conducted by this correspondent, revealed that those hit by flood, were living in their makeshift arrangements at various parts of Mehar, Khairpur Nathan Shah and Johi and facing shortage of food, medicines and clean drinking water.
According to unofficial figures, over 100,000 people were adversely affected by the flood along both sides of FP embankment and areas lying between FP embankment and Main Nara Valley drain.
Zohra Gadehi living in a make shift arrangement near Bug Buriro village, Khairpur Nathan Shah taluka, said that as a result of flood, she had lost 100 goats and grain and reached FP embankment with her family, where they all were facing shortages of food.
She complained that the district administration and the Sindh government were distributing relief goods among the people who were not affected by the flood. She said that her family members have contracted water-borne diseases due to consumption of contaminated water.
Meanwhile, federal minister for water and power Liaquat Ali Jatoi, along with officials of district administration, distributed relief goods among 500 families in Bug Buriro village, besides 300 relief packets at Superio Bund.
Mr Jatoi said that flood water has affected many parts of Mehar, Khairpur Nathan Shah and Johi talukas. He said that he and the District Nazim of Dadu, Karim Ali Jatoi, were monitoring the distribution of relief goods. He said that prime minister would soon visit the areas devastated by floods.
