Case against policemen for ‘stealing’ auto parts

SIALKOT, July 29: The Civil Lines police have registered a case against six police officials for allegedly stealing parts of 16 cars, 47 tractors and 112 motorcycles worth Rs15 million.

The Sialkot district police seized these vehicles from criminals from 1997 to 2006 and parked them at its Maal Khana on the backside of the Police Lines. It deployed Sub-Inspector Qalab Abbas, Assistant Sub-Inspectors Muhammad Aslam, Muhammad Ayaz and Iftikhar Hussain, Naib Branch Constable Asghar Ali and Head Constable Rehmat Ali at different times to look after these vehicles, but they stole parts of these vehicles and sold them for Rs15 million.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Mian Muhammad Nawaz said the police detected this scam during a special checking of the record of the Maal Khana. He said no accused had been arrested so far and an investigation was in progress.
