LAHORE, July 28: The Labour Party Pakistan has described the ongoing ‘deal’ between Gen Pervez Musharraf and Pakistan People’s Party chairperson Benazir Bhutto as a move against the democratic forces and the people.

LPP chairperson Nisar Shah and secretary-general Farooq Tariq said the deal between President Musharraf and Ms Bhutto at a time when the anti-people establishment had been defeated with the restoration of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry would further strengthen extremists and the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal would be its sole beneficiary.

The CJP’s restoration, he said, had become possible only as a result of the struggle of the lawyers and political workers, besides the public support. “A peaceful protest movement was required to end the role of the army in politics”.
