KARACHI, July 27: The city government has decided that a comprehensive study of the existing storm water drainage network in the metropolis will be conducted with a focus on shortcomings and drainage pattern of rainwater accumulated on roads and streets.

City government officials said that Expressions of Interest had been invited from reputable consultancy firms in this regard. The study would begin after the completion of the required paperwork.

They said a comprehensive survey of existing storm water drainage network would be conducted by using the latest GIS/satellite imagery. The study would propose new storm water drains to establish an efficient drainage system for quick disposal of rainwater. The study aims at suggesting ways to improve the overall system in short and medium terms.

The officials said that a programme would also be devised to minimise possible inconvenience and ensure unhindered traffic flow during the construction of drains. —Staff Reporter
