LAKKI MARWAT, July 26: The process of peace committees’ formation at tehsil and district level completed on Thursday amid objections of local elders and elected representatives over the process of members’ selection for the committees.
The decision was taken at a meeting held at the district council hall. The meeting was attended by District nazim Humayun Saifullah Khan, District Coordination Officer Amer Latif, District Police Officer Waqif Khan.
Members for the committees were nominated during a closed door meeting which was attended by district government representatives, officials of the district and police administration and elders of the area.
The district peace committee would have 34 members comprising district nazim (chairman), DCO (convener), federal minister Salim Saifullah Khan, MNA Maulana Amanullah Khan, MPAs Anwar Kamal Khan, Zafrullah Khan, Malik Imran Khan, former MNAs Haji Muhammad Kabir Khan, Naseer Muhammad Khan and former provincial minister Pir Dr Muhammad Khalid Raza Zakori and leaders of traders, civic organisations, religious and political parties.
Tehsil Nazim Lakki Fareedullah Khan would head Lakki tehsil peace committee with 38 members. Tehsil Nazim Serai Naurang Anwar Hayat Khan would head Naurang peace committee with 35 members.
Some elders of different clans and union nazims objected to the process of members’ selection. They alleged that they were not consulted before finalising of names.
District nazim Humayun Saifullah Khan called upon the people to shun differences and work for the maintenance of peace in the district. He underlined the need for forging unity among Marwat, Wazir, Bhettani, Khattak, Mehsud, and Banochi tribes.
