Aziz, Norwegian PM discuss UN reforms

ISLAMABAD, July 25: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Wednesday telephoned Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and discussed with him the implementation of UN reforms to improve coherence and effectiveness in the areas of development, environmental protection and humanitarian assistance.

Both the prime ministers also discussed proposals for setting up a network of global leaders for the implementation of UN Millennium Development Goals relating to mother and child healthcare.

According to an official handout, Mr Aziz suggested the creation of one UN pilot project in Pakistan as part of the implementation of UN reforms panel report.

Both the leaders reviewed bilateral relations between Pakistan and Norway and stressed upon the need to further enhance these relations.

The prime minister appreciated the assistance provided by the Norwegian government to Pakistan in education and healthcare sectors.

The Norwegian premier appreciated the steps taken by the Pakistani government to ensure peace and stability in the country and offered his government’s support in the campaign against terrorism.
