KARACHI: SHC orders removal of Kazmi’s handcuffs

KARACHI, July 25: The Sindh High Court ordered removal of a petitioner’s handcuffs on Wednesday and asked the police to provide protection to his wife and children. Syed Iqbal Kazmi, a human rights campaigner, was produced handcuffed to pursue his petition for quashment of cases against him. He was produced before a division bench comprising Chief Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed and Justice Nadeem Azhar Siddiqui, which was also seized of his petition against the new Pemra law. He is lodged in prison to face trial for issuing bogus cheques but the court has ordered his production on the dates of hearing of his petitions.

Advocate Farooq H. Naek, who was present in the courtroom, pointed out that the petitioner could not be produced handcuffed. The court ordered removal of handcuffs, directed police to provide protection to his wife and children and asked Advocate Naek to assist the court in considering his quashment plea.
