KARACHI, July 24: Pakistan’s Yasir Butt stunned New Zealand's Kashif Shuja in qualifying round of the CIMB Malaysian Open squash championships on Tuesday to claim a place in the first round of the men's PSA Tour event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Yasir took 40 minutes to beat Kashif 11-8, 11-8, 7-11, 11-5.
19-year-old Yasir will face compatriot Aamir Atlas Khan in Wednesday's first round.
Pakistan’s another player Farhan Mehboob has also moved to the next round by overcoming Egypt's Omar Abdel Aziz 11-6, 7-11, 11-6, 11-5.
Farhan will clash with a fellow countryman, Mansoor Zaman.
Local interest in the WISPA World Tour Gold championship doubled when Sharon Wee and Lim Yoke Wah survived women's qualifiers.
Sharon beat fellow Malaysian Delia Arnold 9-6, 8-10, 9-6, 9-3 and will meet Egypt's Omneya Abdel Kawy.
Lim Yoke Wah scored 9-4, 10-8, 9-7 victory against Line Hansen of Denmark. She will face England's Vicky Botwright.
