Rains, flood claim another life in Dir

By Our Correspondent

DIR, July 24: One person was killed as torrential rains and flash flood hit Dir on Monday. Raging flood water swept away Araf Gul eight kilometres downstream in the Dir River when he was trying to catch timber logs. His body was found at Chukiatan

Different areas of Upper Dir including Qashqary, Dobando, Lowari and UC Qulandi received torrential rains on Monday which caused floods in streams and the Dir River.

Rescue and relief operation in Banria, Dir Upper were still continued.

In Banria, where lightning and flash floods had killed over 50 people on Friday, search for dead bodies was still continued on Tuesday as rescuers believed that a number of dead bodies were still under the rubble of buildings. They had so far found 47 bodies from the flattened houses.

The government and various non-governmental organisations had set up relief camps at roadside in Nashanamal. The district authorities were coordinating with the organisations in providing relief to victims.

The injured were also being provided medical facilities at the camps.
