No streetlights in Muzaffargarh

By Our Correspondent

MUZAFFARGARH, July 24: The entire city plunges into darkness at night as the tehsil municipal administration has not installed streetlights for the last one year. Reports said tube lights and other electric items worth Rs800,000 were stolen from the stores of TMA eight months ago, but it did not get any case registered with police. The equipment had been bought during the tenure of former tehsil nazim Nawab Israr Ahmad Khan. The theft took place during the period of incumbent nazim Sardar Abad Dogar and TMO Farid Khirani.

Azad Bakht Shirwani advocate, a tehsil council member, told Dawn that time and again he asked the TMA officials about the recovery of the items, but they always nodded in negative. He said he had sent applications to the chief minister and the local government department seeking action against the TMA but in vain.

When contacted, TMO Farid Khirani said: “It was not a big loss and we have a lot of funds and these complaints are part of the job.”

Nazim Abad Dogar told this correspondent that he had formed an inquiry committee and action would be taken shortly.
