LAKKI MARWAT, July 24: The district government and tribal elders have again failed to develop a consensus on the finalisation of names for a peace committee to be set up at the police station level.

The second meeting in this respect was held at the Lakki Marwat police station on Monday evening. District Nazim Humayun Saifullah Khan, DCO Amer Latif, District Police Officer Waqif Khan, union nazims, elders and ulema attended the meeting.

Mashal Khan, private-secretary to the district nazim, presented the list of proposed persons recommended by the district government as members in the peace committee.

However, the elders, including former MNA Haji Mohammad Kabir Khan Marwat, JUI district Amir Maulana Abdul Wahid Marwat and Khanzada Ahmad Jan Khan Begukhel, objected to the list, alleging that the district nazim had selected his blue-eyed people for the peace committee.

“We were assured that the peace committee would be formed after proper consultation with all elders as well as former and sitting MPs of the area,” they said, adding that they would not accept any such committee which did not include members from all clans.

“How can we give our consent to the proposed list when no-one bothered to consult us in the matter,” they asked, calling upon the district administration and heads of district government departments to ensure the inclusion of honest, peace-loving and well-reputed personalities in the peace body.

DCO Amer Latif asked the elders to submit the names of their choice so that a final list could be approved.
