KARACHI, July 24: The first meeting of the provincial health, Board of Visitors (BoV), was held here on Tuesday at the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) and discussed the aims of the board.

The meeting was presided over by the chairman, Board of Visitors, Justice (retd) Dr Ghaus Mohammad. It was informed that President General Pervez Musharraf passed the Mental Health Ordinance in 200,1 according to which the BoV should be established in all the four provinces.

The Sindh government took the lead by establishing such a board in the country. Justice Dr Ghaus Mohammad was appointed as chairman and Dr Qazi Irshad as secretary.

The board established two committees for visiting Sindh's Public and Private Mental Health Institutions to analyze the situation of psychiatry practices and patient's treatment there.—PPI
