LOS ANGELES: Actress Lindsay Lohan was arrested in the Los Angeles area early on Tuesday on suspicion of drunken driving and cocaine possession, just days after she completed a 45-day rehabilitation programme, authorities said.
The 21-year-old star of “Mean Girls” — already facing a drunken-driving charge following a car crash in Beverly Hills two months ago — was taken into custody in the coastal city of Santa Monica shortly at about 1:30am.
She was released from jail after posting $25,000 bond, and Lohan's lawyer issued a statement hours later saying the actress had suffered a relapse and that she was “presently receiving medical care”.
Police said they encountered the actress in a parking lot after the mother of Lohan's personal assistant called them on her cellphone to report that she was being pursued by Lohan in an automobile chase.—Reuters
