KARACHI: Rural dept revival likely

KARACHI, July 23: Sindh Local Government Minister Muhammad Hussain Khan has said the local government department’s role is vital for effective working of all local body institutions.

Presiding over a meeting of all section heads of the department at his office on Monday, he formed a three-member committee to review the possibility of rural development department’s revival and sought its recommendations within 15 days.

He ordered Sindh Local Government Commission Director-General Khursheed Naeem Malik to ensure quick disposal of cases received against elected representatives of local bodies. Action taken on complaints should also be brought in the notice of the common man through the press, he said.

Expressing satisfaction over the disposal of cases pertaining to the union councils and town municipal administrations, he asked the Sindh Local Government Board to upload all records on the official website of the department.

On the complaints about non-availability of UCs and TMAs offices, he asked for acquiring details about the transition funds, meant for the purpose.

Among others, Secretary Local Government Fazlur Rehman, Special Secretary Local Government Iqbal Ahmed Zubaidi, Special Secretary Housing Ali Azhar attended the meeting.—PPI
