TAIPEI, July 23: Taiwan's unemployment rate rose to 3.96 per cent in June from 3.87 per cent in May, largely on an increase in new graduates entering the job market, the government said on Monday.

The June jobless rate, however, was down from 3.98 per cent in the same month a year earlier, the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS) said.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, the June unemployment rate came in at 3.90 per cent, down from 3.95 per cent in May and 3.93 per cent a year earlier, it said.

In June, 423,000 people were jobless, up 10,000 from May, the DGBAS said.—AFP
