NOWSHERA, July 22: Jamaat-i-Islami chief Qazi Hussain Ahmad on Sunday expressed concern over what he called the killing of thousands of students in the Lal Masjid and Jammia Hafsa by the authorities, and asked the Supreme Court to take action against those who were responsible for it.
The JI leader was addressing an Ulema convention here on Sunday. The convention also passed some unanimous resolutions.
In one of the resolutions, the Ulema asked the government to end their “unlawful military rule” in the country and to establish a constitutional and democratic government in the country.
Another resolution called for implementation of Sharia in the country, saying that Pakistan had been founded in the name of Islam and it was obligatory on its rulers and the people to put in place a government that implemented laws in line with the injunctions of the holy Quran and Sunnah.
Through another resolution, the Ulema expressed deep concern over the army’s likely operation in the Malakand and other districts and tribal areas, asking the government to end pursuing US policies. The resolution also asked the government to seek support of the local population of the NWFP and tribal areas to establish peace in the area.
