PESHAWAR: Outages affect vaccine efficacy

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, July 22: Excessive loadshedding and prolonged power outages are rendering children’s vaccines ineffective, according to officials.

“We need to refrigerate vaccines at 2-8 degrees Centigrade to maintain their efficacy.

However, consistent power breakdowns are affecting the temperature required for storing the vaccines for preventable diseases,” said an official.

According to him, they had got cold storages in Peshawar, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Mansehra and Malakand, which supplied the vaccines to the health institutions in their respective areas.
