CJ constitutes six benches

By Nasir Iqbal

ISLAMABAD, July 21: Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry on Saturday constituted six benches, over one of which he will preside himself from Monday, marking the first day of formal work from his official residence.

On Saturday, the chief justice called Supreme Court Registrar Dr Faqir Hussain to his residence in the picturesque Judges Enclave to discuss official matters.

Dr Faqir was transferred as secretary to the Laws and Justice Commission of Pakistan soon after acting chief justice Javed Iqbal took oath on March 9. He was reappointed as SC registrar after the CJ assumed the charge of his office on Friday.

This development has given a rise to speculations that more transfers and postings are in the pipeline.

During the meeting, the CJ passed orders regarding official functions and constituted six benches — three each at Islamabad and Lahore registries.
