LAHORE, July 21: Four-year-old bay filly Sapna is set to complete a hat-trick of victories when the 12th day/night Lahore Summer Meeting takes place at the Racecourse on Sunday.
Thoroughbred Sapna from One Against All out-of-Pearl City is contesting in the fourth race of the day, the Daska Plate Class-V Division-II.
There are a dozen acceptors of the race barring last-minute withdrawal.
The filly had won two back-to-back races on July 8 and July 15. Promoted in the weight scales in the same division, the filly has shown great potential as a fighter and should pick up the spoils for the third time.
This time the task is a bit difficult as the filly has to face more seasoned rivals like Billoo The Great, Volcano and Jewna, and a good rider is extremely necessary for Sapna.
A competitive card of six events, over sprinting distance of 1000 metres, will be decided in the day/night racing.
There are at least four to five chance runners in each race to make the events competitive. Besides, there are a couple of horses in each race who have not won a race or who have come down in the handicap after winning a race since long. Therefore, guessing winner will be difficult for punters.
The Lahore Race Club (LRC) is endeavouring to hold competitive races to attract more turf accountants to generate more funds to overcome shortage of finances.
In the feature event which is the sixth and last race, there are seven runners, of whom three belong to one stable, namely, Charismatic, Dil Vil and Chill. On recent form, the first named looks better. Gujrat Princess and Jut Bahadur come next.
In the supporting and fifth event, the ones in good form are Jung Frau, Run And Win, Richy Dancer and Prince Salman. All have fairly bright chances of winning.
There are a dozen acceptors of the third race of whom three come into reckoning. They are: First Dream, Princess Afaq and Striker. The handicap favours First Dream to make amends for last time defeat. Striker has come down in the handicap but lacks striking power over the distance.
Pretty Princess, Stride To Moment, Cheeko Khan and Grace Glamour are the pick of 13 contestants in the second race.
After registering a facile victory on July 1, bay mare Pretty Princess put up a dismal show on July 8 finishing fifth under her regular rider M. Zeeshan.
The way Zeeshan rode her raised many eyebrows. Such incidents are not uncommon in a sport which involves betting. There is a common saying that ‘money makes the mare go’ but some times it is the opposite.
My Shanga, Issabella and High Quality are the pick of eight runners drawn for the first race. The handicap favours Issabella while the race distance goes in favour of My Shanga.
Meanwhile, the LRC has warned owners and trainers that if their horses are not sent on try out, they will change engaged riders with new ones. In such cases, the owners will not be entitled to additional prize-money in case of making clean upset. But if the horses are on job and for certain reasons their riders are changed and they make clean upset, the owners will get additional amount of prize-money reserved for those making upset.
The first race will be held at 5.30pm.
