QUETTA, July 21: Lawyers on Saturday observed Yaum-i-Tashakur and celebrated the reinstatement of Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry by the Supreme Court. They vowed to continue their struggle for the independence of the judiciary.
Judges of the lower courts in the city adjourned all cases fixed for Saturday on the request of lawyers’ bodies to celebrate the verdict of the apex court.
The lawyers took out a procession from the district court that passed through Manan Chowk, Shara-i-Iqbal, Meezan Chowk, Liaquat bazaar, Prince road and Jinnah road. They chanted slogans against President Musharraf and the government.
Addressing the rally, Balochistan High Court Bar Association President Shakeel Ahmed Hadi thanked the media, opposition parties and people for supporting lawyers’ movement. He said that although lawyers had succeeded in their struggle, the main objective to liberate people from the yoke of dictatorship was yet to be achieved.
The lawyers also celebrated the reinstatement of CJ in Khuzdar, Panjgur, Turbat, Dera Murad Jamali, Sibi, Pishin, Loralai and Zhob.
