MANSEHRA: Extension urged in deadline: Winding up of Jabba tent village

MANSEHRA, July 21: The displaced families living in the Jabba tent village have demanded the extension in the July 25 deadline set by the district administration for the winding up the tent village.
“In the monsoon weather it is impossible and dangerous for us to shift to land sliding areas from where we had fled after the October 8 earthquake to save our lives and families,” they said.
The delegation of the displaced families of the Jabba tent village, led by Sat-Bani Union Council Nazim Mian Ziaur Rehman, met Mansehra District Nazim Sardar Mohammad Yousuf in his office.
Most of the displaced families living in the tent village hail from the severely-hit union councils, including Garlat, Ghanool, Sat-Bani, Hangrai, Paris, Gari Habibullah Kawai, Kaghan and Narain of Balakot tehsil.
The delegation, comprising heads of the displaced families, appraised the district nazim about their problems.
They said the government did not consider the fact that most of the earthquake affected union councils of Balakot tehsil were very dangerous in the monsoon season as due to heavy rains and the land sliding. Last year over 100 people were killed in the land sliding and in flood related incidents.
They made it clear that: “All most all the displaced families had been fled as their houses had been swept away in the land sliding in the earthquake and got refuge in the Jabba tent village but the government wants to kill all of us by winding up the tent village”.
They said the government despite the announcement by the president did not pay the compensation amount of Rs75,000 to each displaced families, which was another big hurdle in their shifting to their respective areas. They demanded the district nazim to extend the July 25 dateline for the winding up of the Jabba tent village until the monsoon season passed.
