KARACHI: First phase of Site cleanliness drive completed
The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board’s Additional Vice-Chairman Imamuddin Shehzad visited the union councils of Malir Town here on Friday. He inspected ongoing water and sewerage projects and said efforts were being undertaken to improve the system. The Malir Town nazim, Naib Nazim Sharafat Hussain, Chief Engineer Zone-1 Imran Asif and others were also present. Mr Shehzad ordered urgent repair work of the Saudabad pumping station to provide smooth water supply to the citizens. He took notice of the overflow of sewage at Jaffar-i-Tayyar Society and ordered remedial measures. He was informed that a PC-1 to solve the water and sewerage problems of the area had already been sent for approval. He assured the citizens of his complete cooperation regarding the solutions to their problems. The May 12 incidents were described as a conspiracy to drive a wedge between citizens of different ethnic backgrounds in the city. This was said by the District Naib Nazim of Swabi, Malik Mohammad Salim who, along with a 40-member delegation, met the Karachi Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil here. He said all misunderstandings about ethnic issues in Karachi would be dispelled, while Nasreen Jalil informed the delegation that quite a large number of Pakhtuns reside in the city. The Swabi naib nazim was presented a plaque of the city government, who presented a traditional shawl to Ms Jalil in return.—PPI
