KARACHI, July 21: Civil rights campaigner Syed Mohammad Iqbal Kazmi, who was arrested by police in cases of fraud, was produced in the court of a judicial magistrate, East, on Saturday, who extended his judicial remand till Aug 1.

JM Allah Bachayo remanded him in judicial custody till Aug 1 and transferred his case to the court of JM-1, East, Shamsuddin Junejo, for further trial.

The court also issued a show-cause notice to the investigation officer (IO) of the Al-Falah police station, directing him to appear in the court on the date of hearing.

Iqbal Kazmi told reporters that the notice was issued on his request, saying that the IO concerned had managed to send him behind bars in what he described as a fake case, without even producing a charge-sheet to the court on time.

“I have also got registered two cases at the same police station against Ghazanfar Hussain Shah, police official, but the police authorities are not taking any action against him,” he said.

Mr Kazmi is facing three cases of almost same nature. He will be produced in the court of JM Shamsuddin Junejo and JM (South) Zulfiqar Ali on the same date as the cases were registered in two different police stations, Al-Falah and Darakhshan.
