LAHORE, July 20: Folk singer Shaukat Ali’s book titled ‘Takoran’ — a collection of Punjabi poetry — was launched at a ceremony held here on Friday. The World Punjabi Congress organised the book-launch ceremony. Its chairman Fakhar Zaman presided over the event while Nasreen Bhatti, Dr Ajmal Niazi and Husain Shaad were prominent among those present.

Fakhar Zaman appreciated the work of Shaukat Ali. He highlighted the role of Punjabi writers, poets and singers in providing due status to the language.

He said the people at the helm should play an active role in promoting the Punjabi language and culture. Shaukat Ali said Punjabi poets and thinkers had promoted tolerance in society. This gesture of theirs encouraged him to compile a book, he added.—APP
