PESHAWAR, July 20: Small dams and reservoirs are vital to promote the agricultural sector that is vital for the country’s economic progress, according to District Nazim of Lakki Marwat Humayun Saifullah Khan.

He was talking to various delegations of farmers and landowners here on Friday.

Mr Saifullah said that Rod Kohi siphon project has been introduced at a cost of Rs30 million to resolve the problem of water shortage for cultivation.

He said that because of the success of the Rod Kohi system, more than 100,000 hectares of barren land had been reclaimed, resulting in an earning of Rs500 million from grain production.

Moreover, he said that forests, livestock, water supply, dairy development, fisheries and other sectors had also benefited from the Rod Kohi project.

The multi-purpose project had also raised the local water table besides stopping soil erosion, he said.—APP
