QUETTA, July 19: Feud between 14 clans of Hamzazai tribe over the ownership of Tarkha Chinah coal mines has been resolved and an accord signed to start mining in the field located near the Makhtar area of Loralai district.
Mining has come to a halt because of the dispute. Commander of the Southern Command, Lt-Gen Khalid Shamim Wyne, and Brigadier Nazir Ahmed played an important role in resolving the dispute.
Elders of the Hamzazai tribe approached the army and sought help in resolving the dispute just as it was done in the case of Chamalang coal fields. The agreement was signed by 14 clans of the tribe at a ceremony held on Wednesday.
Under the accord, two committees have been formed. Brigadier Nazir Ahmed will head the first committee and tribal leader Akhundzada Sardar Mohammad Ali Khan will be its deputy chairman. Five elders of the Hamzazai tribe would be its members.
The committee will determine the limit of the area among the clans and will ensure that every clan gets its share from the mining proceeds.
It was decided that tax would be imposed on coal extracted from the mines. The money earned from the tax will be spent on the development of the area.
The committee will be responsible for maintaining law and order in the area and can fine any person or group for violating the regulations.
The second committee comprising 14 members will resolve issues of small nature. If it fails to resolve any issue it will then be refereed to the implementation committee.
