BUCHAREST, July 19: Romanian Nadia Comaneci, the first gymnast to receive a perfect mark of 10 at the Olympics, has been named as her sport's world-record woman by the World Records Academy.

Comaneci dominated the gymnastics competition at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal at the age of 14, earning seven maximum marks.

“I feel really honored to be named the queen of gymnastics for my old performance,” Comaneci told local state radio by telephone from the United States.

“It's a great surprise and a pleasant feeling to know that the people did not forget you and to also know that you will stay for ever in their memory.”—Reuters
