5,000 policemen on alert

LAHORE, July 19: Police have already been alerted to meet any eventuality and special pickets mounted at all exit and entry points of the city to keep a vigil on suspicious elements.

More than 5,000 officials have been deployed for this purpose in Lahore, Capital City Police Officer additional IG Malik Muhammad Iqbal said while presiding over a meeting to review security arrangements in the wake of the prevailing situation in the country on Thursday.

The CCPO said the public role was also important in foiling saboteur activities, and the people should respond if they witnessed any suspect or unclaimed items around them.

He said peaceful atmosphere would be ensured in the city and a comprehensive strategy had been evolved in this regard.

Mr Iqbal said the government offices, busy areas, markets, bus and wagon stands, hotels and guesthouses were being monitored. Mobiles squads, Muhafiz Force as well as traffic wardens had also been directed to be vigilant and intensify patrolling.

All SPs would be responsible for maintaining law and order and round-the-clock patrolling in their respective areas. He said they would also monitor performance of their subordinates deployed at important places.

The CCPO directed the SPs to install close-circuit cameras at important places and ensure that these gadgets already installed at various spots were in order.

He also directed to provide security cover to foreign delegates, public gatherings and important personalities.—Staff Reporter
